BUILDING THE PERFECT BOMBER

Alpha Industries and Live Fast Die Young share a connection to streetwear shaped by authenticity, community and a willingness to make established silhouettes their own.

For Alpha, the MA-1 has played a central role in that story: moving from its original military purpose into subcultures, music and fashion, where it has been adopted and reinterpreted for generations. The collaboration with LFDY continues that evolution from a distinctly contemporary perspective.

It started with a simple ambition: Live Fast Die Young wanted to create the bomber jacket they had always been looking for. To do it, it was only logical they came up to the brand behind the original MA-1 – Alpha Industries.

Just weeks after the first conversation, the LFDY team visited the European Alpha Industries headquarters. The process started where much of Alpha’s story lives: in the archive. Together, we dug through original flight jackets, vintage references and decades of MA-1 details until one piece stood out – a perfectly faded vintage MA-1. Its worn-in color, proportions and character became the starting point for the collaboration.

FROM THE ALPHA ARCHIVE TO A NEW MA-1

Rather than simply recreating the archive piece LFDY wanted to translate its character into something new. The classic nylon shell was replaced with cotton, while the cut of the vintage MA-1, military references and Japanese surplus books informed the fit, construction and details.

One element became essential early on: the spray effect. Several iterations were needed to find the right balance in the body color and achieve the sun-faded appearance that defined the original reference. Contrast became equally important. Contrasting zipper tapes and cuffs break up the faded exterior, while the reversible construction reveals LFDY’s signature camouflage lining. The result gives the MA-1 two distinct expressions: quiet with the sunfaded exterior, loud with the camouflage side.

Details from both brands run throughout. Alpha signatures such as the reworked Remove Before Flight tag, crinkled Tyvek neck label and Alpha embroidery on the wind flap meet LFDY logo embroidery, custom wording and signature camouflage. Hidden inside the pocket, an LFDY label reinterprets an Alpha patch from the 1980s – a small archival reference with an “if you know, you know” quality.

FROM PARIS TO RELEASE

The partnership was first introduced at Appartement Alpha during Paris Fashion Week, where an exclusive dinner brought together friends, family and collaborators of both brands. A limited waffle long-sleeve created for the occasion offered the first teaser of the full collaboration.

The MA-1 was presented inside the Paris apartment against a brushed-metal installation, surrounded by a moodboard, vintage 1980s jackets and references from the development process – bringing the research behind the collaboration into the space.

Now, the project moves from archive and development to its full release. With the MA-1 at its core, the collaboration extends into a five-piece capsule featuring the Alpha x LFDY Knit Hooded Zip, Alpha x LFDY Cut Off Sweater and two Alpha x LFDY Tees.
